Christmas Crafts and Ideas

It’s that time of year when everyone goes craft crazy, grabs the glue and glitter and starts producing homemade, gifts, decorations and food of varying quality! So what are you planning on doing this year?  There are lots of simple ideas that can make lovely presents for grandparents, friends and relatives when you have a little one, that don’t need to cost the earth, and can make a treasured keepsake.  Last year we had ago at a foot print turned into Olaf from Frozen, which went down a storm.  We made it from salt dough, and were really pleased with it, although at three Leo’s foot might have been a little big! Leo Olaf

Try your own ornaments using this salt dough recipe:

  • A cup of plain flour
  • Half a cup of salt
  • Half a cup of water

Mix the flour and salt in a bowl and slowly add the water, mixing and kneading until you have a soft dough.  If it is too sticky, add more flour.

Once the dough has been made into your choice of ornament or design you can cook it in the microwave. Pop it in for 10 seconds at a time until it is completely dry, and then it is ready to be painted.

As ever Pinterest has a wealth of ideas to get you going with ideas, for gifts and crafts.  Check out our Christmas board for some ideas.  I am going to try making some candles for gifts, which I’m really excited about, just keeping my fingers crossed I don’t end upon the Pinterest fails list!

Featured Business- KM Counselling and Coaching

logo - bannerKm Counselling and Coaching offers support to anyone undergoing a difficult time in their life.

It is run by Kate Moriarty, and she is based in both Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Kate Says:

As an Emotional Therapeutic Counsellor my approach is person-centred and holistic. I use a range of creative techniques to facilitate the healing process with my clients, considering the emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual aspects of each person. This approach enables my clients to unravel, explore and make sense of past events, and the emotions connected with them.

As a Wellbeing Coach my approach is again humanistic. I work on the premise that my clients possess the answers to their perceived problems. My role is to facilitate a dynamic process where the client is facilitated in a journey of discovery, realisation and inspiration, leading them to a place of clarity, renewed motivation and wellness.

Clients are able to progress with their Counselling and Coaching at a pace that suits them, in a safe and supportive environment.

Natural Essence Photography- Featured Business

Natural Essence Photography is this week’s featured business.  Run by Zoe and based on the outskirts of Gloucester, Natural Essence specialise in newborn photography.  Working from her warm and cozy studio that she had built in her back garden, Zoe can provide a personalised shoot that suits the needs of your baby and you.

Zoe says:

Newborn babies do not stay newborn for very long and after 2 weeks of age they lose their curled up position and become less sleepy.  For this reason newborn baby photography session are scheduled for when your baby is between 5 – 14 days old. At time of booking we pencil in a date for your newborn baby photography session, so my time has been allocated to you.  Once your baby has arrived we confirm the date or schedule another.

It is advisable to book your newborn session once you’ve had your 20 week scan to secure your photo session and guarantee my availability for when your baby arrives. Due dates are so unpredictable so session slots are limited per month to accommodate for late/early arrivals.  Of course, should you hear about this service nearer to your due date or once your baby has arrived, I will do my best to fit you in.

I have attended specialist training to ensure the comfort and safety of your baby and I am also fully insured.

Being a mother.

Ever have those days when you feel like you have done nothing, when even managing to eat some lunch was a struggle. Whether you are a full time stay at home mum, or off on maternity leave, finding your identity as a mother can be really hard.  People expect you to get back to ‘normal’ pretty quickly, whatever normal may be after you have had a baby.  Partners and husbands may not be able to understand why things aren’t done with the same efficiency as they were pre-baby, or how you feel about staying at home.  Some women embrace the change, and feel it is something they were born to do,other women, not so much.  Whichever category you fall into, these two books by Naomi Stadlin and Brigid McConville can help with that transition.  Both gentle and easy to read, they celebrate the role of the mother and the things we do when raising our children.
‘On Becoming A Mother’ gives an insight into the thoughts and beliefs around the world that embrace and support women on their journey into motherhood.  Looking at what happens in some other cultures and how women are supported can give us an insight into what we are missing in our own experiences, and maybe allow us to be a bit kinder to ourselves.
