Gloucestershire Welcomes Breastfeeding is is a joint initiative between Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters’ Network (GBSN), which is helping local families to find comfortable, welcoming places in their local community where they can breastfeed with confidence.
Some mothers feel daunted by the prospect of breastfeeding in public and this scheme has been set up to help women feel more confident and enable them to continue to get out and about with their children.
Each business registered with the scheme has agreed that:
- Breastfeeding is acceptable in all areas of the business premises that are open to the general public and women who are breastfeeding in those areas will not be asked to stop or to move to another area.
- Staff members will be aware that some women prefer privacy when feeding so will offer a private area if one is available.
- All staff members will be aware of the membership of the scheme and will be supportive to the needs of breastfeeding mums.
By visiting a local business that is registered with the scheme, you can support their commitment to Gloucestershire’s mothers and babies. And you can be sure that you are welcome to breastfeed your baby in any area that is open to the general public.
You can find businesses in your area that have signed up to the scheme by checking the map on this website, or looking for the Gloucestershire Welcomes Breastfeeding stickers in the window’s of local businesses.
